Petroleum industry investors are often keen to know the updates on Offshore Oil News. Here is a basic idea for an average person, who wants to know about the offshore oil platforms.

An offshore oil platform, called as offshore platform or oil rig is a large structure mainly used to drill oil wells in the beds, for the process of extracting oil and natural gas. These fuels extracted are shipped or piped to various countries. It is estimated that US had produced about 9 million barrels of crude oil/day in 2005, and was able to import 13.21 million barrels/day to various countries. Oil is refined to make gasoline, heating oil, kerosene and various other products. But to keep–up with the consumption of oil, that goes higher and higher each day, the companies must look for new resources to improve the production of oil, from the existing wells.

Oil, one among the fossil fuels, is found in many countries around the world. Production of offshore oil and gas is much riskier and challenging as it is often done in far-flung and harsh environments. The innovations that are going in offshore oil sectors these days focus more on overcoming these challenges. The production and drilling facilities are very large and expenses for offshore oil platforms are very high.

Offshore oil production also has environmental risks, especially oil spills from oil tankers and pipelines that carry oil from the offshore platform to onshore, and leaks and accidents on the offshore platform.

Produced water (water that is produced with oil and gas, from offshore oil platform) is also generated from offshore platforms. It includes different amounts of oil, drilling fluid and which are usually used in oil production. The produced water is usually emptied into the ocean.

More information about offshore oil platforms and offshore oil drilling can be received from the blogs which are published by the leading oil and gas research and investing companies.

Hi, All:

We will be running a Rules training session at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario on Saturday 27 March, starting at 9:00 AM. I apologize for the short notice, but the early spring weather has allowed an early start to the museum's season!

This session will cover the "classroom" part of the training, as well as a walkaround to familiarize new trainees with the equipment and track. It is a prerequisite to all other training and certification for operation of handcars, motorcars, and trains. A second session will include hands- on training with operating equipment and rules test.

Once certified in Basic Railway Safety, trainees can then start specific training on various types of equipment.

We have a tremendous need for motorcar operators this year, to maximize the motorcar ride revenue at the museum. As well, we need to qualify a number of new volunteers for train operations.

You can find the basic study material at: http://www.sfrmeo.ca/forums/showthread.php?tid=9 . Please download and read through the document!

We'll see you there. We hope to run two or three more sessions later in the year, but it is best to get started early if you can make it.

Thanks,

Our volunteers have been very busy indoors through the winter. I'll post descriptions of this work as reported by Brian Kelsey and Doug Kolish.

Steve Hunter

March 4, 2010 (from Doug):

Hand car 2: Doug completed the painting of the first yellow top coat. Doug also took the small oil cover to Merrickville to have 4 duplicates made. Unfortunate the foundry is closed on the weekend so this will be done another day soon.

05 Mar 2010 (from Brian)

Hand car 1. Bill, was paint stripping the repaired tower and plugging bolt holes in it.

Hand car 2: William painted the yellow top coat until he had to leave. Tom took over. It is nearly complete.

Display panels. Tom painted another coat of green on some of the panels.

Blue Caboose: John Weir and George Margita installed displays in the interior, hanging framed railway maps and pictures from John's collection.

1921 CP caboose. Alan and Brian sanded, then Alan gave about 35 boards their second and final coat of CP mineral brown. Doug and William brought approximately twenty more boards in from the restoration center, for treating knots and priming.

Coach 5019. Brian brought back the restored and varnished double window valence. It is in the express room. He disassembled the rest of the window frame that the valence came from. One vertical (40"x4"x3/8") from between the window pair was taken home. The rest of the parts were left in situ for safe keeping. The car seems dry inside.

03 Mar 2010 (From Brian)

Hand car 1. Bill, with Alan, got the frame squared up and reassembly has begun.

Display panels. The painting of the panels is complete. Two additional panels from upstairs are being painted.

1921 CP caboose. Forty boards received the first coat of the brown finishing coat.

Coach 5019 . One window frame in good shape and several window parts were stripped using Alan's heat gun. Brian took them home to finish stripping them with paint and varnish remover and oxalic acid crystals. The parts will be used for repairing frames that are repairable.

February 11, 2010 (from Brian)

Hand Car 1. Bill, with some help from Alan, was squaring up the new framing. Not an easy job.

Display Panels. Tom continued painting. Two more bi-folds to be painted were brought down from upstairs.

1921 CP caboose. Alan and Brian primed the second side of another 40 or so boards. Bill digitized the siding specifications and got an estimate for the left hand side of the car. Doug ordered a gallon of paint matching Bytown's carefully researched CP caboose colour. Alan will pick it up Saturday.

Car 23. Brian has completed eight exterior components for the car 23 exterior display. Two components to go - the letter board and some T&G siding. Bill digitized the specifications for the T&G siding and got an estimate for both sides of the car.

Framed photos. One frame in very poor shape was stripped and refinished.

Photos. Brian took home a shoebox of photos from the tower. Ross Robinson has offered to go through them and write some details on the backs. The 123 Ken Papineau photos of car 23 have been scanned at a high resolution. Approximately 70 are interior shots that will be essential for reconstructing the interior of the car.

First class coach 5019. Worked on stripping one interior double window valence to assess it's condition. There is some black superficial water damage on the top surface and the rest is still perfect. Last fall 5019's roof was covered with tarps, so continuing water damage from the roof has been stopped for now.

05 Feb 2010 (From Brian)

Hand car 1 (A Sheffield product- sbh). Not without a struggle, Bill (with a little bit of help from his friends) dismantled more of the wooden frame. One more session might complete that part of the job. A front axle alignment problem was identified and will be corrected with the new framing.

Hand car 2. Alan machined new bushings out of bearing bronze for the handle mechanism pivot points. There was no bushing at all on one side and an ill-fitting makeshift piece of copper tubing on the other. Some sanding was done on the tower, but more to go before it can be primed.

http://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/...g2015.html

http://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/...html#media

Paint. Doug provided another gallon of primer. In March, he'll be able to get brown paint for the 1921 CP caboose siding. Alan will provide an exact colour sample from Bytown.

(Note: Here's a shot of the car the siding will be going on...)

http://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/...36757.html

Display panels. Tom painted the new display panels. They will receive a final coat of a darker green to match the walls in the main waiting room.

1921 CP caboose. A dozen more siding boards were brought into the waiting room and cleaned.

Framed Photos. The 40" long builder's photo of 4100 received new glass and the paint speckles were removed from the frame. It is now hanging to the left of the ticket window. Seven more framed photos from the board room were taken home by Brian to receive new glass and have other repairs done.

Paint. Doug provided another gallon of primer. In March, he'll be able to get brown paint for the 1921 CP caboose siding. Alan will provide an exact colour sample from Bytown.

(Note: Here's a shot of the car the siding will be going on...)

Hi, all:

We are planning two track bees, to be held at the museum on Saturday, 26 September and Saturday, 24 October 2009.

Our goal is to make significant progress toward completion of the Mainline Realignment project at the east end of the museum's property. Work will be performed on the east runaround switch, laying rail eastward to that built last season, and ballasting/ lining/ surfacing the already- laid trackage.

For a look at previous work on the Realignment, see http://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/sfrmeoalbum5/ .

We need as many volunteers as possible both days, so hopefully we'll see you there! We anticipate work starting 9 AM and finishing 5 PM both days. We hope to have the BBQ running both sessions as well, so nobody needs to go hungry.

Please contact Steve Hunter at s.c.hunter@sympatico.ca for further details and to confirm attendence.

We hope to see you there!

Hi, All:

I will be at the Museum tomorrow, Sunday 12 July, to lead some track construction work on the Mainline Realignment project.

Our main tasks will be:

Aligning ties, installing rails east of the east runaround switch.
Solidifying the north stock rail on the east runaround switch

If enough volunteers are available:

Cutting brush, long grass along the mainline realignment
Raising track in a "dip" on the realignment, which will let us judge the correct length of rails to be used in joining the track to the east runaround switch

Please be aware the east end of our property is a construction zone, with extensive filling work going on. Two construction companies are working on our property- Barr Construction of Kingston, who are winding down on extensive excavation for the new Smiths Falls Hospital (more coming in the spring), and our good neighbours Saumure Construction, who are starting to build the new Smiths Falls arena. If dump trucks and/or machinery are present, you will need to park well out of the way and stay clear of traffic routes. Given that it is the weekend, things should be quiet with no special concerns.

If possible, please wear steel toe work boots and work gloves. You'll want to bring plenty of water and sunscreen!

You will notice that a couple of loose rails and about twenty ties have been removed and piled to the side. Don't panic at this sight- it was done with our permission, to allow truckloads of fill to travel north of the mainline without travelling on public roads and private parking lots. With the sheer volume of heavily laden trucks from both contractors, it is best for them to stay off paved areas and take the shortest possible route.

When truck traffic slows down, we will quickly install the rails in this section and build a proper private grade crossing to allow unimpeded traffic for trucks and trains. This crossing will be handy for volunteer/ member/ emergency vehicle access in the future as well.

Here are links to a couple of our photo albums, freshly updated:

I should be on site around 9 AM, and will ensure our student employees know where we are. If in doubt, check with them and they can give directions.

I hope to see a number of you there, whether to work on track, clearing weed growth, or simply to visit!
I have posted some current photos of the fill project to our online albums. It's coming very nicely! You can access the photos at at:
http://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/...uture-tra/ .

As well, here are some photos of the Agent/Operator's office and various displays in the museum:

http://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/...splays-ju/ .

As usual, there are many other albums online at: h

ttp://public.fotki.com/elliottd/sfrmeo/ .

Per request from the board, we moved 6591 and train westward (near William Street) again today. This was a good opportunity to replace an air brake hose and do some air brake testing. Our recent difficulties with the air compressor cycling rapidly are fully corrected. 6591 is behaving perfectly.

John Weir was busy giving handcar rides and mowing grass, and Doug Kolish was working hard around the site as well.

Enjoy!

Hi, all:

Here's a quick report of work done

Sunday 24 May:

Four volunteers were present and more are always welcome to help with any of the projects. The Museum was open and there were approximately 15 visitors.

1112. Alan and Brian installed the last of the four restored cab windows. Brian finish painted the primed areas on the right side running gear and wire wheeled, phosphoric acid treated and primed the last rust spots on the left side of the cab. The left side of the cab and tender are now nearly ready for Alan to spray paint. Alan finished building replacement parts for the right side wind screen.

Museum. Rian manned the Museum, conducted tours, worked on displays, repaired the soap dispenser in the men's washroom and helped Alan fix and install the bathroom fan.

Grounds. Doug got a good start on the lawn mowing, then had to leave for work. Ed and Phyllis White from the Smiths Falls Horticultural Society dropped by and will try to obtain donated flowers for the ornamental gardens.

Tuesday 26 May:

Doug worked on grass cutting nearing completion of front.

Doug empty garden shed of all garbage.

Rian fix garden tap. Worked on displays.

Doug and others are continuing to recover track jewelry from south of William Street. Doug could use extra help, so if you're available please contact him at dkolish@hotmail.com .

Wednesday 27/05 Rian will continue preparing displays.
Roger worked in the gift shop
A bus tour arrived

Today's Plans:

Thursday 28/05 Alan and Brian to continue prep work on 1112.
Brian will measure and record the width of the rough window openings on car 23.
Brian will try to replace 2 broken window covers on the combine.
Tom will work in the library.

Board Meeting tonight, 6 PM at the museum

A date will be announced for a blitz to clean up the gardens and plant flowers. Please plan to come and help.

Incidentally, if you haven't looked at CN 1112 lately, you should. Alan and Brian are working hard at getting the entire locomotive in a fresh coat of black paint, and she's looking beautiful. Hopefully all her lettering can be completed this summer. If anybody would like to help with 1112, please let us know!

May 2-3, 2009 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Spring has sprung, which means that it’s time to prepare for a new season. As always, we could use a few extra hands. Why not consider volunteering for a few hours at the Railway Musuem f Eastern Ontario? Or, take ownership of an activity and enroll your friends and family for the day! Just let us know you are coming by, every bit helps.

Inside the station Apple Auto Glass will be applying UV Window film and will need several people to assist in this effort.

Outside the station we'll be doing a general grounds clean up, brush removal and hitting the area behind the station (scrap wood, scrap metal *and seperating the useful items*).

Any help is appreciated be it helping out both days or an hour of your time.

Please contact Jason (jason.eaglewolf@gmail.com) if you're available to help out.
